Dolphins create cap room by releasing DE Quinton Coples, CB Brice McCain

The Miami Dolphins begin their journey to get much-needed salary cap relief Friday when they cut former defensive end Quinton Coples and cornerback Brice McCain. The pair are the first of several expected cuts this offseason by Miami.

Miami’s release of Coples and McCain will save the team approximately $10 million in salary next season. Coples, a former first-round pick, was scheduled to make $7.751 million and McCain was on the books for $2.5 million in 2016.

Neither player made an impact for the Dolphins last year. McCain was a former starter who lost his job at corner due to inconsistency.
