The Miami Dolphins announced on Wednesday they had been awarded tight end A.J. Derby off waivers from the Denver Broncos. Derby played in nine games for the Broncos this season, catching 19 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns. He played part of the 2016 season with the New England Patriots before being traded to Denver.

He was a 2015 sixth-round pick of the Patriots.

Derby was designated as waived/injured by the Broncos when they released him due to a shoulder injury. He had been placed on injured reserve prior to the move to release him.
