Third downs were the topic of the day at Dolphins camp Thursday.
Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor stepped behind the lectern to address the media admitting it had been a long Wednesday, with the coaching staff spending much time trying to solve Miami’s third-down woes. The Dolphins converted only 2-of-11 third downs (18 percent) in the 36-7 loss to the Patriots.
The Dolphins are 31st in the league — next to last, ahead of only St. Louis — with a third-down conversion rate of just 27 percent (22-of-81). That’s light years behind league leaders New Orleans (48 percent) and New England (47).
