Dolphins add linebacker James-Michael Johnson, cut Sam Brenner

The Miami Dolphins have signed veteran linebacker James-Michael Johnson to address the team's numerous injuries as the position, according to a league source.

In a corresponding move the Dolphins waived offensive guard Sam Brenner on Monday with the intentions of placing him on the practice squad later this week. Brenner must clear waivers on Wednesday to be placed on Miami's practice squad.

To make room on the practice squad rookie tight end Tim Semich was waived according to the league's transactions.

The Dolphins needed to supplement the linebacker unit because both starters - Koa Misi (foot) and Jelani Jenkins (ankle) - are nursing troublesome injuries, and Spencer Paysinger has been sidelined by a neck injury.
