Second-year cornerback Bobby McCain isn't a projected starter for the Miami Dolphins. But he knows his role will be important in the team’s defense this year.
The nickel cornerback has become a 12th man of sorts in the NFL. More teams have increased their spread packages with three and four wide receivers, which means defenses have to adjust and put more corners on the field, especially on obvious passing downs. A quality nickel could get 20-30 reps a game, depending on the opponent and scheme.
