BREAKING: Miami Dolphins fire defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle

It's been a long time in coming, most would say too long, especially given the year-to-year drop off in production. But nevertheless, it's finally happened. The Miami Dolphins have fired defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, as first reported by NFL Network's Albert Breer.

Coyle served as the defensive back coach for the Cincinnati Bengals - including in 2001 and 2002 under Mark Duffner - prior to being picked by Joe Philbin to lead the Dolphins defense. He was hired in January 2012, and was expected to oversee a return to a top-10 defense in Miami, something the Dolphins haven't accomplished on a regular basis since the turn of the century.
