When quarterback Jay Cutler broke two ribs two weeks ago, the Dolphins were put in a position where Matt Moore was thrust back into the starting lineup, while the team did not have a viable backup. Miami signed David Fales to fill that role, using his familiarity with the team’s offensive system, after the quarterback spent all of training camp with the team, to give them an emergency option if something were to happen to Moore.

Cutler returned for this past weekend’s game against the Oakland Raiders, but the team still has Moore and Fales on their 53-man roster.
