Former Miami Dolphins defensive end Bill Stanfill passed away on Thursday, according to a report from the Macon Telegraph. Stanfill, who was the 1968 Outland Trophy winner for the Georgia Bulldogs before being selected with the 11th overall selection in the 1969 NFL Draft by the Dolphins, was 69 years old.
Stanfill, according to the Telegraph report, had been in declining health recently, which was exacerbated by a recent fall from which further complications arose. He passed away in a hospice in Albany, Georgia.
Stanfill played eight years for the Dolphins, earning five All-Star/Pro Bowl berths and a 1972 First-Team All-Pro selection.
