Arian Foster, Michael Thomas, Jelani Jenkins, Kenny Stills kneel for National Anthem

The Miami Dolphins had four players, running back Arian Foster, wide receiver Kenny Stills, linebacker Jelani Jenkins, and safety Michael Thomas, kneel during the National Anthem before the team’s Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks. The demonstration ties back to the protest San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started during the preseason, citing “oppression of blacks and other people of color” as his reasoning behind the move.

Kaepernick initially started his protest by sitting on the bench during the Anthem, but changed it last week to kneeling after discussion with some veterans and other groups.

The move by the Dolphins, coming on 9/11, has upset some fans, especially when compared to the gesture the Seattle Seahawks made of standing arm-in-arm with each other.
