Foster was cut by the Texans earlier this offseason. Houston ended up signing former Miami Dolphin RB Lamar Miller. Foster is coming off a torn Achilles and waited to sign until he was closer to full health. He'll share time in the backfield with Jay Ajayi.
Foster makes sense as a fit with Miami. The Dolphins had tried and failed to sign several other backs after Miller left, including C.J. Anderson of the Broncos. Foster might not be the every down back, but if healthy, he should contribute as a third down option at the very least.
An undrafted free agent after the 2009 NFL Draft out of Tennessee, Foster had spent his entire career with the Texans. A gifted runner when healthy, Foster has played in all 16 games just twice in his NFL career, and not since 2012. He played in just four games last year.
Foster's agent announced it's a one-year deal for Foster. Adam Schefter reports it's a one-year deal worth $1.5 million that can hit $3.5 million with incentives. Foster was scheduled to meet with the Lions later this week, but signed with Miami before doing so.
