The 2015 NFL season is just days away, and there’s plenty of intrigue to spare surrounding the Miami Dolphins as the days tick down. Here's what we've learned about them so far in training camp:
Miami's Linebacker Depth In Question
"The Dolphins already entered the season with questions at linebacker," ESPN's James Walker wrote on Friday. "Now, the group is struggling to stay healthy. Two linebackers -- Chris McCain and Jordan Tripp -- went down Thursday with a pair of ankle injuries. Tripp appears to be the more serious of the two. He needed help back into the locker room. Miami starting middle linebacker Koa Misi also missed the game with a calf injury. Depth is getting thin at this position."
Miami's defensive line is expected to shoulder the bulk of the front seven load with Ndamukong Suh readying to anchor a much-improved and much more versatile unit.
DeVante Parker Making Strides In Recovery
Miami is counting on their young core of receivers to step up this year, and rookie DeVante Parker is closer to being able to make his mark after having a screw inserted in his foot this offseason, according to Walker:
"Parker continues to rehab following June foot surgery and was officially activated from the physically unable to perform list on Aug. 19. The Dolphins will bring him along slowly with the goal of being ready for Week 1 of the regular season. … Parker is behind the rest of the group due to missed time, but he has enough talent to eventually make up ground and find a role in his rookie season."
Rishard Matthews Could Be Trade Bait
Walker also reports that Matthews has been turning heads in camp, but with a limited number of receiver spots available, Miami may decide to trade him:
"Miami has at least five capable receivers in Jarvis Landry, Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills, first-round pick DeVante Parker and Rishard Matthews. Matthews could be good trade bait for the Dolphins. Matthews spent all training camp and two preseason games on the first team while Stills (calf) and Parker (foot) nursed injuries. Stills and Parker are getting healthier, which means Matthews could see fewer reps."
