The Miami Dolphins have officially turned their attention to the offseason with free agency and the NFL Draft as the main priorities, especially with the Senior Bowl having just finished and the combine on the horizon. With that in mind, we've compiled the most interesting tidbits around the Dolphins as the draft approaches:
Miami to target Vernon Hargreaves with No. 8 overall pick?
The Dolphins plan to spent a good deal of time upgrading their secondary this offseason, and ESPN's Todd McShay expects them to do so in the first round of the NFL Draft by selecting Florida cornerback Vernon Hargraves:
At 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, Hargreaves has adequate size to go along with outstanding suddenness, body control and deep speed. He thrives in man-to-man coverage, and with CB Brent Grimes turning 33 this summer, Hargreaves would be a good fit in Miami. The other option would be Oregon DE DeForest Buckner if free-agent-to-be Olivier Vernon leaves town.
Hargreaves had 33 tackles and four interceptions in 11 games this past year.
Dolphins have no shot at Myles Jack?
UCLA LB Myles Jack is another one of Miami's top targets even though tore his meniscus mid-way through the season and elected to bypass his senior year and head right to the NFL. While Jack is still in the process of rehabbing, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report posted a pair of videos, and it's safe to that Jack looks healthy and explosive. Miller also believes that Jack won't make it out of the Top 7 picks come April. The 49ers hold the No. 7 pick this year and they've already been linked to Jack.
That's bad news for Miami, who hold the No. 8 pick.
Jack is one of the most versatile players in the draft after playing both linebacker and running back in college. He racked up 87 tackles during his sophomore season and 15 tackles in the three games he played in this past year.
