Philadelphia Eagles rookie offensive guard Jamil Douglas may have been just a fourth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but that's not stopping him from approaching this training camp with a first-round selection's confidence and drive to secure a starting role.
"It's definitely a big goal," Douglas said of his attempt to land a starting spot, via ESPN. "But at the same time, that goal has to come when the coaches feel that it's time for me to do that. I want them to feel comfortable putting me in the game and trusting me to be able to play throughout the game. So it's just something that I have to keep working and getting better at each and every day."
Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill needs the help, having been sacked 139 times since 2012 -- the most in the NFL.
While Douglas and the rest of Miami's offensive line have had there share of struggles in training camp, there remains a sense of optimism that the guys in-house will put it together, even with rumors abound that Miami is targeting free agent guard Evan Mathis.
"I wouldn't count myself out," Douglas said. "So I definitely want to prove to them that we're here to get the job done. But that's out of my control."
