Our Dolphins news update for August 14th:
The Miami Dolphins fell 27-10 in Thursday's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears, but the team's diminishing depth at linebacker could prove to be a much bigger loss down the road.
"The Dolphins already entered the season with questions at linebacker," ESPN's James Walker wrote on Friday. "Now, the group is struggling to stay healthy. Two linebackers -- Chris McCain and Jordan Tripp -- went down Thursday with a pair of ankle injuries. Tripp appears to be the more serious of the two. He needed help back into the locker room. Miami starting middle linebacker Koa Misi also missed the game with a calf injury. Depth is getting thin at this position."
Miami's defensive line is expected to shoulder the bulk of the front seven load with Ndamukong Suh readying to anchor a much-improved and much more versatile unit.
However, without consistent help from what is now a depleted linebacking depth chart, the team's advantage in the trenches could be somewhat neutralized.
