The offseason has reached a crucial point for the Miami Dolphins. Free agency starts on Thursday, March 9 at 4:00 pm ET (the start of the new league year), but Miami is already taking advantage of the two-day free agency negotiating window that opened yesterday. During this time before free agency starts, teams may negotiate all aspects of the contract but can't finalize the deal. Here are the latest Dolphins news & rumors you need to know:
Miami is not looking to trade Jarvis Landry
Landry's name has been mentioned in trade rumors early this week, and while the Dolphins have received called inquiring about his availability, Miami is not going to trade him, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
And I’m told the Dolphins got a call or two in recent weeks about Landry.
This does not mean he’s on the trade block. This does not mean he’s about to get dealt.
This means the NFL is being the NFL. This type of stuff happens about 245 trillion times a week this time of year. It leads to an actual deal about .000003 percent of the time. (I calculated the numbers myself).
So someone did indeed call about Landry. But the Dolphins are not out there peddling their best wide receiver to the highest bidder.
Landry had 94 catches for 1,136 yards and four touchdowns last season.
Dolphins to re-sign Kenny Stills
Another wide receiver Miami is retaining is Kenny Stills, who the team re-signed with a four-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:
WR Kenny Stills is returning to the #Dolphins, source said. He's informed his teammates.

The #Dolphins are re-signing WR Kenny Stills to a 4 year contract worth $32M, source said. He gets $20M guaranteed.

Stills caught 42 passes for 726 yards and nine touchdowns last season.
Lawrence Timmons to visit Dolphins
On the defensive side of the ball, Miami is looking to upgrade their linebacking core and appear to be starting Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Timmons will visit the Dolphins after the new league year starts.
Steelers Pro Bowl linebacker Lawrence Timmons is set to visit the Dolphins some time after the new league year opens, according to sources. Timmons has Florida ties and Miami needs inside linebacker help. The Steelers have been talking with Timmons' reps but he looks poised to test market unless he changes his schedule. Free agency officially opens Thursday at 4 p.m. ET.
Timmons had 114 tackles with 2.5 sacks and two interceptions last season.
