All of the news surround the Miami Dolphins' draft plans have centered around upgrading their defense, but vice president Mike Tannenbaum said that the team doesn't have any specific plans for the draft - they will change based on what else happens this offseason.
“If we re-sign [running back] Lamar [Miller], if we’re fortunate enough to do that, we’re probably not going to draft a running back," Tannenbaum said. "If we lose Lamar, running back becomes that much more important. For us it really depends on what happens between now and the draft. If we would lose [wide receiver] Rishard Matthews and Lamar Miller, like that could change our thinking.
“We’re only worried about how the draft affects the Dolphins. There’s a lot of talent in this draft, some positions more than others. But again, for us we’ve got to see how it plays out over the next six weeks before we make our strategy heading into the draft.”
While some teams have a specific draft plan and a specific free agency plan, Tannenbaum said the Dolphins have an "offseason plan," saying if they are able to fill most of their defensive needs in free agency, they will look to address other needs in the draft.
Miami has been linked to Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III with the No. 8 overall pick in the draft.
