The Miami Dolphins struggled last season, fired their head coach mid-way through the year and now hold the No. 13 overall pick in the NFL Draft after a blockbuster trade with the Eagles. Now, as we head into the first round of the draft tonight, what are Miami's plans with the pick? Here are all the latest news and rumors:
Miami looking to draft Elliott?
The Dolphins have a big need at the running back position after losing Lamar Miller in free agency, and they were expected to draft Ohio State's Ezekiel Elliott with the No. 8 pick before trading that pick to the Eagles. That pick is now in the hands of the Browns, and according to ESPN's Todd McShay, Miami could trade back into that spot to take Elliott:
I've been hearing the Browns are interested in trading back again...if Elliott slips past Dallas at No. 4, I'm hearing Miami could to move up into the top 10 to snag the RB. The Dolphins have a major need for a three-down back who can start from day one, and Elliott fits the profile. He rushed for 3,699 yards and 41 TDs in his last two seasons at Ohio State.
Dolphins targeting Myles Jack?
If Miami decides to keep the No. 13 pick, they reportedly have their eyes set on UCLA linebacker Myles Jack. Problems with Jack's injured knee could cause him to fall in the draft, but ESPN's James Walker sees the Dolphins ending Jack's slide.
I’m told the Dolphins have done plenty of last-minute homework on UCLA linebacker Myles Jack. He recently had a medical recheck in Indianapolis for his knee, which turned out fine. But teams are debating what Jack’s chances are for re-injury. There is speculation that Jack could fall out of the top 10, and Miami has been on top of it lately by crossing off every “T” and dotting every “I” with Jack. I don’t see the Dolphins passing on Jack if he falls into their lap at No. 13.
