After a first half full of missed opportunities, the Bills pulled away from the Dolphins in a much more entertaining second half. The game ended 29-10 in favor of the Bills, but it could have been much worse for Miami if the Bills had executed in the red zone - kicker Dan Carpenter converted four field goals, all coming from inside 40 yards.
Halftime Quick Hitters: Dolphins Trail Bills 9-0 In Buffalo
Here's what we learned from this one:
Sammy Watkins Is The Real Deal
Buffalo's rookie WR couldn't have been more hyped coming out of Clemson, and he shook off a slow week one performance to break out against Miami. Ending the game with 117 yards and a TD on 8 receptions, Watkins looks like the deep threat the Bills haven't had in years.
Miami Needs To Think Bigger
The Dolphins picked up an anemic 3.9 yards per play, and despite having 23 first downs to Buffalo's 13, they couldn't make big plays when it mattered.
CJ Spiller Continues To Evolve
The multi-talented Bills RB ended the game with 12 carries for 69 yards, a nine-yard reception and a 102-yard kickoff return for a TD. As the offense in Buffalo continues to develop, Spiller will be a major factor.
Moreno's Injury A Concern
Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno exited the game with a nasty-looking elbow injury early in the first half, and without him Miami was unable to make inroads on the ground. Ryan Tannehill ended up with 49 pass attempts, and was sacked four times on the day.
What's Next?
Buffalo now holds sole possession of first place in the AFC East, and they'll look to move to 3-0 next week against the San Diego Chargers. Miami will host the Kansas City Chiefs as they look to put this performance in the rear-view mirror.
