We don't need to remind Dolphins and Bills fans how long it's been since these two teams faced off with first place in the AFC East on the line (I guess we just did...sorry about that). These teams both started off the season with solid wins against very good teams, and both hoped to carry that momentum into this one.
Here's what we saw in the first two quarters:
Buffalo Leaving Points On The Table
Two times in the first quarter, the Bills made it deep into the red zone only to settle for a 27-yard field goal. Dan Carpenter converted both, but a 6-0 lead at the end of one doesn't inspire nearly as much confidence as 14-0 would have. Another field goal early in the second extended the lead to 9-0.
Knowshon Goes Down
After an excellent performance in week one against the New England Patriots, Knowshon Moreno went down early with a nasty-looking elbow injury and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game. Lamar Miller came in for Moreno, but was unable to get much going on the ground.
Miami's Offense Goes Quiet
The Dolphins were unable to replicate their offensive success from last week, and ended the first half with no points after going 2-7 on third-down conversions.
Sammy Watkins Breaks Out
Buffalo's highly-touted rookie WR showed what all the hype was about en route to 89 first-half receiving yards. It's early, but his chemistry with E.J. Manuel has to be encouraging to Bills fans.
