The Miami Dolphins narrowly missed out on the playoffs yet again in 2014, and are looking to improve their roster to get over the hump next year. Who are they targeting in the draft to help them get back to the postseason?
CB Trae Waynes, Michigan State
Miami wants to upgrade the secondary after acquiring Ndamukong Suh, and Waynes is the best cornerback in the draft. He has ideal size at 6’0″, and is used to working on an island without safety help from his time at Michigan State. Waynes does need to add a few pounds of muscle, but he plays a physical style and is excellent in run support on top of being a shutdown corner.
LB Shaq Thompson, Washington
Thompson could be available for the Dolphins in the second round, and if he is, they'll take him. He’s falling on draft boards because teams view him as a linebacker-safety tweener, but Thompson is someone who just knows how to make plays no matter where you put him on the field - the kind of player Miami is looking for on defense.
WR Justin Hardy, ECU
Miami has a depleted receiving core after losing both Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace, but they can afford to wait and take a wideout in the middle of the draft because of the depth this class has. Hardy, the NCAA’s all-time leader in receptions, is one of the most reliable options in the draft and won't be a locker room headache.
