The Miami Dolphins have liked the progress of former sixth-round draft pick Charles Clay as an NFL-caliber tight end, and will reportedly make an effort to bring him back after the end of his rookie contract.
Per Larry Hartstein of CBS Sports, "the Dolphins have privately indicated they want to re-sign impending free agent tight end Charles Clay and will make him an offer in coming weeks, reports the Miami Herald. Clay caught 58 passes for 605 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games this season."
Clay functioned as more of a blocking tight end in his first two seasons, but broke out in 2013 with career highs in catches (69), receiving yards (759), targets (102) and touchdowns (6) while appearing in sixteen games with the team for the first time.
He'd miss two games in 2014, but would still post 58 receptions for 605 yards and three touchdowns while acting as a major safety valve for quarterback Ryan Tannehill throughout the season.
