Dolphins News: Dolphins were top trade suitor for free agent RB Chris Johnson

In a potential "what could have been?" edition of Dolphins news tonight, the Miami Dolphins reportedly were one of two legitimate trade suitors for the services of former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson -- prior to the 28-year-old's release on Friday.

So says ESPN NFL Nation Titans insider Paul Kuharsky -- "At least two teams gave Tennessee a real sense that a deal could be reached. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported four teams were interested, but a source tells me Miami and Buffalo were the teams that came closest to making a move."

But, don't lose all hope quite yet, Miami Dolphins fans.

While Kuharsky doesn't see Buffalo a providing any attraction for the former 2,000-yard rusher, the ESPN analyst isn't ruling out the Dolphins as a potential home for Chris Johnson, despite some reservations --

"The Dolphins and Miami might be attractive. But if he didn't likethe Titans' offensive line in transition, the shakeup the Dolphins have undergone hardly suggests a line that will have jelled by opening day."

Despite extending his NFL career-long streak of rushing for over 1,000 yards (1,077) to six seasons, Johnson had the worst season of his career efficiency-wise, rushing for just 3.9 yards per attempt.

The potential Dolphins target did however continue to present himself as a dual-threat, adding 42 receptions for 345 yards and four receiving touchdowns. Added to his six rushing touchdowns in 2013, Johnson had ten touchdowns overall -- marking the fourth time in his career that he has reached double digits in that category.
