The Miami Dolphins will be looking for a new defensive line coach in the near future, if the rumors are true. Dolphins defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers, who joined the team in 2008, is widely expected to be named the New York Jets new defensive coordinator.
Jets HC Todd Bowles worked closely with Rodgers while Bowles was with the Dolphins from 2008-2011, and Rodgers is one of the most experienced and highly-regarded line coaches in the game. Before joining the Dolphins staff, Rodgers spent 2003-2007 with the Dallas Cowboys organization - first as a defensive tackles coach, then as their defensive line coach. Prior to Dallas, Rodgers had several college jobs, spending time at Arkansas, Middle Tennessee State, Northeast Louisiana and Tennessee-Martin.
The Dolphins could replace Rodgers with assistant defensive line coach Charlie Bullen or search for an external replacement - nothing will be formalized until Rodgers is officially named Jets DC. Dolphins HC Joe Philbin will have to get this one right - Rodgers was beloved by his players, and tensions between players and several members of the staff reached dangerous levels in 2014.
