The 2015 NFL Draft is just a few days away, and there’s plenty of reason to be excited about the festivities in Chicago if you’re a Miami Dolphins fan. Here’s our breakdown of everything Dolphins fans need to know heading into draft week.
Melvin Gordon A Legitimate First-Round Option?
The Miami Dolphins have plenty of options to choose from with the #14 pick, but one intriguing possibility may be Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon.
Miami hosted former Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon back on April 22nd, according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
Miami doesn’t have a pressing need for a running back, but they appear to be looking for a nice complement to work with Lamar Miller. Gordon ran for 2,587 yards and 29 touchdowns last year for Wisconsin, and he fell just a few yards short of Barry Sanders’ record for most all-purpose yards in a single season.
Skill-Position Player Or Trade At #14?
The Miami Dolphins haven't given a clear indication of just who they're targeting at #14, and Miami Herald writer Greg Cote thinks that could lead to the team drafting a skill-position player or even trading the pick:
This year, Miami has no one clear, pressing need for the 14th overall pick. That adds intrigue. Also, the Fins are far more likely to draft a skill-position player than a blocker. That adds excitement.
The Dolphins, of course, offer no clue to their intentions. At Friday’s annual pre-draft media session, subterfuge reigned. The modus operandi for executive VP of football ops Mike Tannebaum and general manager Dennis Hickey is to deny no possibility.
To hear them tell it, the Dolphins might trade up, might trade down, might trade sideways, might stay put, might draft for offense, might draft for defense, might know who they really want, but definitely won’t tell you.
