The Miami Dolphins finished third in the AFC East with a 6-10 record and will need to shed some fat to make a playoff push next season. Miami has holes that need to be addressed to get over the hump in 2018 and need to try and work out the contracts of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and quarterback Ryan Tannehill entering the new season. Combined, they are scheduled to be a $45.9 million cap hit in 2018.
Entering the season, Miami has only $9.7 million in cap space, which is the 4th lowest in the NFL. With such little cap space to work with, here are three Dolphins players that may get cut this offseason.
If you're a die-hard Dolphins fan, you'll fit in great here --> Miami Dolphins by Chat Sports
1.) Julius Thomas, TE
Dolphin tight end Julius Thomas may be one of the most overpaid tight ends in the NFL. He is scheduled to make $6.6 million in 2018 after a season where he had only 41 receptions, 388 yards, and three touchdowns. Though there would be a dead cap hit of $2 million, it would save Miami $4.6 million. Thomas was a bad fit in the Dolphins offense and with him turning 30 years old at the start of the 2018 season, it wouldn't make sense if they kept him.
2.) Ted Larsen, G
Ted Larson will be 31 years old at the start of the 2018 season and it may be time to start looking for a new guard. If the Dolphins decided to cut him they would save $1.11 million in cap space. Larsen spent eight weeks on the IR with a biceps injury this past season. The Dolphins need to upgrade their offensive line and it starts with Larsen.
3.) Stephone Antony, OLB
Stephone Anthony will make $1.49 million in 2018, which is a lot of money for a guy who recorded 15 tackles and zero sacks last season. If the Dolphins decide to cut him it wouldn't cost Miami a penny. He will be 26 years old and hasn't lived up to expectations as a first-round selection. Expect the Dolphins to move on from Anthony this offseason.
