The Miami Dolphins narrowly missed out on the playoffs for the third consecutive season, and head coach Joe Philbin is in a make-or-break year where he needs to find a way to get this team to the postseason. Miami is close to getting over the hump, and they may make a splash on draft day via a trade or draft pick to help them. While we’re not necessarily expecting any of these trades to happen, we wouldn’t be surprised. Here are 3 draft day trades the Dolphins could make when the 2015 NFL Draft rolls around:
1) Trade 1st-round pick (#14), 2nd-round pick (#47) in 2015 and 7th-round pick in 2016 to Raiders for 1st-round pick (#4)
Miami has desperate need for a top receiver, and there probably won't be one available for them at #14 overall. The Raiders need help in a lot of places, so getting three draft picks in return would be great for them while the Dolphins could get Alabama's Amari Cooper or West Virginia's Kevin White, both of whom are true No. 1 receivers.
2) Trade 1st-round pick (#14) to Steelers for 1st-round pick (#22) and 3rd-round pick (#87) in 2015
Miami is in prime position to draft one of the top corners or pass-rushers in the draft, but they could use the extra draft pick. Pittsburgh would make this move to draft Michigan State CB Trae Waynes, the top cornerback in this class, and Miami could move back to grab a good receiver or a running back.
3) Trade 1st-round pick (#14) to Saints for 1st-round pick (#31) and 2nd-round pick (#44) in 2015
This move would give New Orleans two consecutive top-14 picks, something they need to help improve their defense. Moving back this far in the draft would still allow Miami to grab a skilled receiver or running back while adding a 2nd-round pick, where they can draft an impact player.
