The Miami Dolphins loss three of their last four games in 2014 by an average margin of just under 19 points, falling out of the AFC Playoff picture and finishing 8-8 on the year. This team has playoff-or-bust expectations for next season, and they’ll look to put themselves over the top with a stellar 2015 NFL Draft class. However, drafting the wrong players could very well send them spiraling in the opposite direction. Here’s 3 Players The Dolphins Need To Avoid In The 2015 NFL Draft.
CB Marcus Peters, Washington
Peters is the most athletically gifted cornerback in this draft class, but reaching for him at #14 would be a major risk of a pick on a player who was dismissed from the Huskies back on November 6th after repeated clashes with the program's coaching staff. The Dolphins would be better served focusing on Michigan State's Trae Waynes if they decide to pick a cornerback this high.
WR Devin Funchess, Michigan
Funchess projects somewhere in the second round on most NFL draft pundits' boards, but we're not sold on Miami targeting him that high. While he has the size to create mismatches, his lacks the build, hands, and finishing grit that a true NFL starter needs to maintain his spot on this level. He might put it all together, but right now there's a lot of sizzle and not so much steak with the former Michigan Wolverine.
OLB Benardrick McKinney, Mississippi State
Another second-round projection, McKinney may fall even further than that after many scouts came away unimpressed with him at the NFL Scouting Combine. McKinney projects to be an above-average linebacker on a great defense. However, he lacks that certain combination of instincts and pure athleticism that separates the merely decent for the game's true standouts.
