NEW ORLEANS – Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Memphis Tigers (25-36, 9-14) scored the final four runs of Friday's matchup, all with two outs, in a 4-1 win over the Tulane Green Wave (30-24-1, 10-13). Memphis earned its fourth consecutive win, second straight conference series win, and set up a sweep opportunity in the regular season finale Saturday.
Memphis: 4, Tulane: 1
WP: Dalton Fowler (3-3)
LP: Chandler Welch (4-4)
SV: Blake Wimberley (2)
How it happened:
- Fowler issued a leadoff walk to SS Gavin Schulz in the first, and the Green Wave turned it into a run with a stolen base, sacrifice bunt, and an RBI groundout, as Tulane led 1-0 after one frame
- Memphis' pitching staff allowed just five more baserunners over the final eight innings
- The Tigers tied the game in the second, as CF Zach Wilson tallied his fourth home run of the year, which tied the game 1-1
- The game remained 1-1 until the top of the fifth inning, when RF Braden Webb put Memphis in front for good with a two-out solo home run, his first of the year, that gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead
- After RHP Michael Massey departed due to an injury in the eighth, RF Teo Banks came in to pitch and he surrendered a two-run, two-strike, two-out double to Wilson, which made it 4-1 Memphis, the eventual final
- After 4.
