MEMPHIS – Former Evansville standout DeAndre Williams is joining the University of Memphis basketball program.
Williams, a 6-foot-9 Houston native, averaged 15.2 points and 6.9 rebounds last season for the Aces, whose season included an upset of a No.1-ranked Kentucky team. Williams joins a class that includes Virginia Tech transfer Landers Nolley II and junior college transfer Ahmad Rand.
Williams shot 64.8 percent from the field in the 18 games he played last season as a sophomore before being sidelined by a back injury. Among his best outings were 26 points and nine rebounds in his debut against Ball State and 37 points (on 17-of-18 shooting) in a game against Miami (Ohio).
