Tiger Golf Opens Play in Competitive Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The University of Memphis men's golf team opened its 2016-17 season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, a field that had the entire field ranked inside of the top-100 in the Golfstat.com rankings from a season ago.

The Tigers shot a first round 303 on the par-72, 7,012 The Farm Golf Club course. Virginia and Auburn have tied for the lead in the field by shooting first round scores of 276 each.

Memphis was led by freshman , who carded an even-par 72 in his collegiate debut. Giles started strong, opening the round with a par and a birdie, and another par to stand one stroke under par through three holes.
