FORT WORTH, Texas – For the first time in program history, the University of Memphis men's basketball team won the American Athletic Conference tournament championship, beating No. 1/1-rankend and top-seeded Houston, 75-65, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the win, the Tigers (26-8) also beat a No. 1-ranked team for the first time in program history. Memphis will enter the NCAA Tournament winners of 14 of its last 17 games. The title is the team's 13th conference tournament championship in its history, spanning five conferences.
Kendric Davis led the way for Memphis, scoring a game-high 31 points to go with five rebounds and three assists.
