PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a dominating performance in the 59-56 comeback victory over Tulsa Saturday, freshman guard has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Shutes scored a floor-high 24 points, shooting 9-for-14 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the victory.
With Memphis trailing by as many as 11 in the second half, Shutes helped lead the Tigers comeback. With 3:06 remaining, Shutes drained a crucial left corner three-pointer to give the Tigers a two-point edge. At the end of the game, Shutes knocked down a pair of free throws to force Tulsa to put up a three to tie the game.
