PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis guard Lester Quinones was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week Monday following his performances last week against Oregon and Alcorn State.
Quinones, from Brentwood, N.Y., averaged 18.5 points in the two games, an 82-74 loss to Oregon Tuesday in the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland and a 102-56 victory over Alcorn State Saturday at the FedExForum.
In the game at Portland, Quinones finished with 16 points, four assists and two steals in a team-high 34 minutes. Against Alcorn State, Quinones scored a game-high 21 points – his season-high – and added 10 rebounds for the first double-double of his young career.
