LAWRENCE, Kan. – A Kansas goal with just over a minute to go gave the No. 18 Jayhawks a 2-1 victory against No. 20/18 Memphis Thursday night at Rock Chalk Park.
The setback negated a terrific night in net by goalkeeper Rachel Ashworth Shepard as the senior tallied five saves and provided a strong presence off the line. Offensively, the Tigers outshot the Jayhawks by an 11-10 margin.
Memphis set the tone early after a shot just 20 seconds into the contest trickled wide of the post.
The Tigers broke through in the ninth minute of the match when Stasia Mallin connected on her first score of the season.
