PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Bradley Bawden fired a 1-under 70 and three teammates shot identical scores of 1-over 72 to help the University of Memphis open the three-day American Athletic Conference Championships in impressive fashion.
The Tigers shot 2-over 286 Sunday at the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort and trail first-round leader SMU by only one stroke going into Monday's second round at the par 71, 7,125-yard layout.
SMU's McClure Meissner is the first-round individual leader. He shot 5-under 66, three strokes better than USF's Albin Bergstrom. USF, the four-time defending champion, is in third place at 6-over 290.
