Memphis came out firing on all cylinders and didn't let up as they cruised to a 67-49 win over Southern Mississippi in the season opener Saturday night at FedExForum. The new-look Tigers were led in scoring by a familiar face in Shaq Goodwin with 15 points, while nine different players scored in the game.
Freshman Dedric Lawson started the scoring with two free throws and had eight points within the first five minutes of the game as Memphis jumped out to an early double-digit lead, 12-2.
Goodwin was 6-of-11 shooting to score his 15 points and he pulled down a team high nine rebounds.
