AUBURN, Ala. – Memphis held a seventh-inning lead but could not hold off a late rally by No. 5 Auburn and lost, 5-4, Wednesday at Plainsman Park. The Tigers (6-11) were up 4-1 before Auburn scored three runs in the seventh and one run in the eighth.
Danny Denz started and battled for five innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He managed to get out of trouble on multiple occasions and used inning-ending double plays in the second and third innings.
Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, doing all of the damage with two outs.
