MEMPHIS – Memphis special teams coordinator Pete Lembo was named one of 41 nominees for the 2019 Broyles Award, Wednesday. The Broyles Award honors college football's top assistant coach each year.
Lembo is in his first season as Memphis' special teams coordinator and assistant head coach.
Per ESPN, Memphis ranks first nationally in special teams efficiency with an 85.1 rating. Special teams efficiency measure a unit's per-play contribution to a team's scoring margin.
Memphis has recorded two kick return touchdowns (Gabe Rogers, Antonio Gibson) and now has 10 kick return touchdowns in four seasons, leading the country.
