Late Home Runs Cost Memphis in 6-3 Loss to Cincinnati

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Leading 3-2 after 7.5 innings in the series opener, the Memphis Tigers (21-26, 5-14) surrendered a two-run home run in the seventh inning and another in the eighth inning, both of which propelled the Cincinnati Bearcats (21-25, 10-9) to a 6-3 victory. RHP Beau Keathley spun a complete game for the Bearcats in his career-long outing.

  • Consecutive singles from Nicholson and Cross opened the home half of the fifth, as 2B Wyatt Stapp tied the game 2-2 with an RBI double, though Gartman stranded the go-ahead run at third base
  • Memphis retook the lead in the sixth, as DH Jacob Compton led off with a double, moved to third base on a single by LF Ian Bibiloni, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Swanberg, which made it 3-2 Memphis
  • The score remained 3-2 Memphis until the seventh frame when the Nicholson/Cross duo did it once again for Cincinnati, as Nicholson led off the inning with a single and scored on Cross' go-ahead two-run home run, as Cincinnati led 4-3 after seven innings
  • LHP Dalton Kendrick relieved Gartman after seven innings and walked C Joe Powell to open his outing, while DH JP Sponseller followed with a two-run home run, which made it 6-3 Bearcats, the eventual final
