NEW ORLEANS – With Tulane (8-8, 3-0 The American) leading 58-55 with nine seconds to play, freshman guard Madison Griggs' three-point attempt from the left shoulder rolled around and off the rim and prevented Memphis (9-7, 0-3 The American) from stealing a conference road win at Tulane Saturday. The Green Wave defeated the Tigers by a 59-55 margin.
Memphis trailed at the half, 38-29, as the Green Wave zone stifled the Memphis offense in the early going.
Tulane jumped out to quick 8-2 lead, but once the Tigers saw the zone a few trips down the floor, the Tigers used three straight points from Julan McDonald to stay within range, down 17-14 at the end of the first quarter.
