Releasing Dakari Johnson gets Memphis down to 15 roster spots but it does leave them thin in the front court. Even with the Grizzlies getting down to 15 players they aren’t done making moves. They still have another two-way spot as well as the possibility of making more moves.
No surprise on the Dakari Johnson waiver in Memphis. Trade to acquire him was to get under the tax by shedding the Jarell Martin contract. Would not recommend the Grizzlies using the stretch provision on the $1.4M contract. Memphis is $477K below the tax without stretching.
As said in this tweet the Grizzlies have no need to use the stretch provision on Johnson.
