We’re in the beginning stages of the Memphis Grizzlies' offseason preparations, and there are plenty of plots and subplots to follow during July’s free agent push. The Grizzlies are looking to add some pieces to strengthen their team, but signing the wrong player or two could send them in the wrong direction. Here are three free agents they should avoid:
J.J. Barea
Barea is a backup point guard the Grizzlies are looking at, but he also needs the ball in his hands a ton. Add in the fact that he's one of the smallest players in the league, and there simply wouldn't be enough room for him to have the kind of impact you'd be paying him to have.
Marco Belinelli
Memphis definitely needs to add more shooters to their lineup, and are interested in Marco Belinelli, who's a career 39 percent three-point shooter. However, he has seen in minutes (and impact) drop in recent years on the Spurs' bench, and the Grizzlies don't want to spend a good amount of money on someone who's going to ride the bench a large majority of the time.
Tayshaun Prince
Memphis is looking to add more wing depth, but Prince has already spent an unsuccessful stint with the Grizzlies - and there shouldn't be another. They already have plenty of aging vets with limited athleticism, and Prince likely wouldn't see much playing time or be effective when he was on the court.
