Will Likely honored with a pair of awards

Will Likely’s performance was historic.

He was named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week and to the Paul Hornung Award National Weekly Honor Roll, according to a press release.

The Maryland cornerback had a big day against Richmond in which he returned eight punts for 233 yards and averaged 29.1 yards per return. He also took one back for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The historic day set a new Maryland and Big Ten record for yards in a single game.

In 1939, Iowa’s Nile Kinnick (who the Hawkeyes named their stadium after) accumulated 202 return yards, which stood until this past Saturday.
