Despite minimal contributions from its Maryland contingent, the United States men’s basketball team advanced to the FIBA Under-19 World Cup semifinals with an 81-59 win Friday over Germany.
Starting guard Immanuel Quickley (Mount Saint Joseph) had five points on 2-for-7 shooting along with three assists and two steals in the quarterfinal. Kevin Huerter (Maryland) had two points on three field-goal attempts as well as two rebounds and a steal in a team-low eight minutes.
The rising sophomore guard sat out the first half in Cairo, and his father, Tom, confirmed Huerter was suffering from a stomach bug.
