Maryland basketball needed a late push to hold off American’s upset bid in the season-opener on Friday night, pulling out a 62-56 win at the Xfinity Center in College Park. A few takeaways from the victory:
Trimble is vintage down the stretch: This was just American, and Trimble (22 points, 4 assists) was far from perfect, but he looked like his old self down the stretch. With his team trailing by four, he tied the game on a pair of back-to-back drives. Later, with Maryland clinging to a three-point lead and less than a minute remaining, he got back to the basket and finished off an acrobatic layup to essentially end the upset bid.
