Nevil Shed was almost immediately moved to tears as he stepped into the foyer of Cole Field House on Saturday afternoon. It was here that Shed helped Texas Western to a groundbreaking win over Kentucky in the national championship game in 1966. It was also the first time that Shed’s father had ever watched him play.
A choked-up Shed wished that his father could be with him again on Saturday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that win, but Shed was also grateful that he could spend the day with four of his former teammates: Willie Cager, David Lattin, Louis Baudoin and Willie Worsley.
