Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon had planned to deploy the 1-3-1 zone against Georgetown on Tuesday night but decided to hold off because the Hoyas were already giving his team fits with their perimeter shooting. He stashed the idea away for a few days, a wrinkle to add down the road in case he needed to make an adjustment defensively. He didn’t know it would come as soon as Friday night, when his man-to-man defense was getting gashed by a Rider team that had its way in the lane for most of the night.
Turgeon readily admitted that he didn’t have his team fully prepared for the Broncs, who led by 14 midway through the second half.
