The Maryland men’s basketball team will play its first game in Baltimore since 1999 when the Terps meet Princeton at Royal Farms Arena on Dec. 19.
Longtime college basketball promoter Russ Potts, a 1964 Maryland graduate who later worked in the athletic department in College Park, said Monday that the contract for the game is awaiting final approval by the university.
Potts is most famous for pitting Virginia’s Ralph Sampson against Georgetown’s Patrick Ewing at the Capital Centre in Landover in 1982. He also promoted the game there between the Terps and Hoyas in 1993.
The 76-year-old promoter, a former Virginia state senator based in his hometown of Winchester, said he has tried for years to bring the Terps back to Baltimore.
