Trailing at halftime by its biggest deficit of the season, Maryland's defending national champion women's lacrosse team needed a spark early in the second half of Sunday night's NCAA championship and it got one from one of its best combinations.
After Kelly McPartland scored the first goal of the half, All-Americans Taylor Cummings and Brooke Griffin took advantage of a sloppy North Carolina pass to catch the Tar Heels' defense out of position and cut the lead to 6-5. It was the first goal of the game for Griffin, the senior All American and the Terps' offensive quarterback.
