Terps linebacker Jermaine Carter Jr. named to Butkus Award watch list

On the heels of a breakout sophomore season, Maryland’s Jermaine Carter Jr. has been named to the Butkus Award watch list.

The Butkus Award, which honors the best linebacker in college football, included 51 players on its preseason watch list released on Tuesday morning. It came as no surprise that Carter Jr. was included. The former Friendship Collegiate star was one of Maryland’s most productive players last fall, posting a team-high 103 tackles. He also had 14 tackles for loss, which was the highest total for a Maryland middle linebacker since E.J. Henderson in 2002. Carter also ranked eighth in the Big Ten in tackles per game with 8.
